Ph.D Programme

This Institute is one of the earliest to offer Ph.D in Engineering in this country. Presently there are over 400 research scholars pursuing Ph.D programmes in various Departments, Schools and Centers under the three faculties, namely, Engineering and Technology; Basic and Applied Sciences; and Humanities and Social Sciences. Fifty two Ph.D degrees were conferred in the last convocation held in March 2015. The number of recipients of the Doctorate Degree in the next academic year is expected to be more than seventy. The Ph.D programme in IIEST is a full time programme and though there is no mandatory residential requirement, the scholar is supposed to participate in other academic activities of the Institute, in general, and in the department in which he/she is enrolled, in particular. Moreover, the scholar must register himself/herself within two/three semesters after enrollment. A prerequisite for the registration to the Ph.D programme is the completion of the course work suggested by the Doctoral committee of each scholar. Registration is valid for five years and may be extended by two years in a step of one year each.

Ph. D Admission

On-line applications are received according to notifications duly put up on the institute website in the month of April and October. Details of the number of seats available in each unit as well as the area in which the research would be carried out along with the names of the prospective supervisors are made available on the website enabling the candidate to make an informed choice. Candidates shortlisted by various departments have to further appear for a written test/interview as decided by the respective departments. Selected candidates have to enroll to the respective Ph.D programmes. Enrolled candidates are awarded scholarship depending on the availability of the same.
